SCiP Alliance Research
The SCiP Alliance is at the vanguard of high quality research and its translation to better policy and practice committed to supporting children and young people in Armed Forces families to thrive in education. We need to know better before we can do better.
We have:
- Published research that established the low participation rate for Service children, drew attention to the need for systematic monitoring of progress, and provided the foundation for the SCiP Alliance;
- Undertaken the first ever analysis of Ministry of Defence data to build a clearer picture of the educational journeys of and landscape for Service children;
- Undertaken analysis of Department for Education data and developed it into a briefing and an online map of the distribution of Service children across England.
- Established a PhD Studentship, funded by the University of Winchester, which will scale up our research capacity and deepen our exploration;
- Convened international research symposiums, drawing together diverse research exploring the needs and perspectives of Service children and families;
- Commissioned stakeholder research to inform our Theory of Change and strategy and to guide the sector's priorities for supporting those supporting Service children;
- Published research briefings for a practitioner and policy-maker audience to make academic evidence accessible to those working with Service children;
- Commissioned research into school practice, which identified the 7 principles of effective support (and is the foundation for the Thriving Lives Toolkit);
- Undertaken scoping research, convened a policy summit and commissioned research into post-16 practice
- and much more...
