Expanding Best Practice: 50 New Case Studies Added to the Thriving Lives Toolkit
Posted in News
The Thriving Lives Toolkit, a vital resource for schools supporting children and young people from Armed Forces families, has been significantly enhanced with the addition of 50 new case studies. Thanks to funding from the Naval Children’s Charity, this expansion provides schools with a more rigorous and evidence-based approach to self-assessment, offering valuable insights into best practices from diverse educational settings across the UK.
A Searchable Bank of Best Practice
These new case studies, gathered from schools with both low and high proportions of Service children, align with the seven principles of effective support. This ensures that all schools, regardless of their context, can access relevant, well-evidenced examples to enhance their provision.

The case studies will:
- Improve the rigour of schools' self-assessments by enhancing the case study format and guidance.
- Support stronger, evidence-based approaches by providing a diverse and extensive range of case studies.
- Increase engagement with the Toolkit by tailoring training and promotion based on individual school self-assessments.
- Enhance understanding of the Toolkit, ensuring schools can confidently use it to improve their support for Service children.
Enhanced Self-Assessment and Practice Guidance
In addition to the case studies, the project has developed enhanced self-assessment guidance and examples of practice for each question within the Toolkit. This is a fantastic resource for schools, allowing them to effectively self-assess their provision, set clear objectives, and implement best-practice approaches tailored to their context.
Discover and Learn
This growing collection of case studies empowers schools to benchmark their progress, learn from others, and implement proven strategies that improve outcomes for Service children.
To showcase this new resource, we are hosting a webinar on Thursday, 28th February at 4pm, featuring:
- Clare Sherer, MBE – CEO of the Naval Children’s Charity
- Matt Blyton – Project Lead
This session will provide an in-depth look at the new resources, how to use them effectively, and how they can benefit your school.
