The need to get the whole system in the room

The SCiP Alliance is embarking on an ambitious project, funded by the Annington Trust, to embed asset-based systems thinking throughout its approaches, not only in the core Alliance project work but also throughout that of our partnerships and allies. Having focused on some key mechanisms for improving support for young people in Armed Forces families, such as the Thriving Lives Toolkit for schools, it seems time to step back and look at how such tools, and the barriers we are developing them to address, do not exist in a vacuum but in a wider social and political context.
A core group of champions drawn from the SCiP Alliance Management Group will be developing skills in Whole System in the Room events, asset-based facilitation and systems thinking this year, culminating in a sector development event that will gather all elements of the system within which we seek to influence the environment around Service children in education. I'm excited to be part of that learning, better equipped together to enhance the policy and practice that can and should support Service children to thrive.
