Supporting Service children's education in school
Posted in News
The SCiP Alliance worked with the University of Winchester's Widening Participation team to host the SCISS (Service Children in State Schools) South East conference. The day illustrated not only the challenges service children can face but also the important skills they develop, as well as the passion and energy of school staff and leaders who support them in many of our schools.
SCiP Alliance partner SCISS is an affiliation of the 6000 plus state maintained schools in England that have children of Service personnel on roll. The SCISS National Executive acts as an advisory group to the government on issues around educational disadvantage and promotes good practice in the provision of education for service children.
Conference delegates included senior leaders from schools across the south east, local authority officers and welfare professionals who support Service pupils. The conference celebrated SCISS’ achievements since 2003 and brought together partnerships to shape its future development. Delegates and expert speakers explored welfare issues and the impact of Service families’ diverse cultures and heard about the latest research.
