Armed Forces Day

Children from Talavera Infant School designed and made small wooden discs depicting heroes in their lives. These were first displayed on the bandstand in Aldershot before being removed and made into a rainbow displayed in school

Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire

As a result of the Didcot Schools Service Collaboration project, Harwell Community Primary School now asks Armed Forces parents are to complete a ‘Strengths and Difficulties’ questionnaire, with the responses used to shape any bespoke pastoral support for their children, as well as review the impact of any support provided.

Remembrance and Mindfulness Garden

Drakies Remembrance and Mindfulness Garden was officially opened on 10th November 2023. Drakies Primary School has transformed an otherwise unloved area of the school grounds into a beautiful and peaceful space where pupils can choose to go for some ‘chill and still’ time if they are feeling sad, distressed, or in need of time to reflect. The school has a growing population of military families, as well as several children who are bereaved, or worried about family members.

Service Pupil Intervention and Support document

Plymstock School has developed a Service Pupil Intervention and Support document, which is distributed to all staff in mid-September. Additionally, it is provided to new staff upon joining the school and at key moments, such as during periods of conflict (e.g., Ukraine, Gaza).

CPD - Supporting young people, families and staff during periods of deployment

At Plymstock School, the Coordinator of Service Families oversees annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for all staff. The CPD is designed to help staff understand the unique challenges faced by Service children and equip them with the knowledge and strategies to provide effective support during times of need.
