Next Steps South West, Uni Connect Programme
Next Steps South West (NSSW), a consortium of fourteen partner universities and colleges throughout Cornwall, Devon and Somerset funded by the Office for Students, is a partner in the 2018-19 Uni Connect-SCiP Alliance project.
As the region’s Uni Connect Programme, NSSW help young people navigate their own personalised journey to higher education (HE). Throughout the area, they hold collaborative events and activities designed to inspire target students aged 13-19 years old to fulfil their potential. Through meaningful interventions with both young people and their influencers, NSSW aim to build aspirations, awareness and access to HE, supporting young people to make an informed choice for their future. All guidance is impartial and designed to tackle a set of perceived barriers; geographic, socio-economic, finance, lack of skills, lack of knowledge and the perceptions of influencers. NSSW’s progressive outreach model aims to raise the cultural capital of local communities, with a long-term objective to increase the number of underrepresented groups in HE by 2020.
